PageZephyr Search indexes your storage volumes and allows you to keyword search files types previously destined for print, such as: .indd (Adobe InDesign), and .qxd (QuarkXPress) files. QXD is supported back to v6, and INDD back to CS. PageZephyr also extends indexing to attached volumes.

PageZephyr Search and Extract has all the features above and also allows you to edit the query results and export content to RTF and TXT.

Both PageZephyr solutions index supported documents on startup. The user is then presented the Directory Tree of the indexed documents, each with a Reveal for the stories in each document. The user may now search the indexed documents for keywords and/or key phrases. When the search is complete, the Directory Tree will show only those documents and stories containing the search terms. Clicking on any story will display the text of that story in the Story Board together with the formatting styles supported by RTF such as fonts, pitch size, color, bold, italics and so forth. Right clicking any document allows you to open the document in the native application, if installed.

With PageZephyr Search and Extract, the user can easily extract and conveniently export the text content to RTF or TXT.

Future versions will include compatibility with .pub (Microsoft Publisher) and other print-related file types and older version.

MarkzTools is an XTension that can be used to prevent corrupted QuarkXPress documents, overcoming the dreaded bad file format [70], [39], and [108]. You can verify your saved Quark documents, so you will immediately know when the integrity of your file is suspect. Furthermore, using a special temp file MarkzTools can try to help you recover documents that have become corrupted during a save operation while using Quark.

(*Note, this special temp file is only available to MarkzTools behind the scenes and is not selectable by the user.)

In the case of a badly corrupted file in which the page layout data cannot be salvaged, the (scavenge text) feature may extract text stories from a document file.

MarkzTools alerts you whenever you are about to save a lower version document to a higher version. It also makes QuarkXPress backwards compatible, allowing you to open higher version Quark documents.

It is important to note that even though PUB2ID provides many benefits, conversion is not perfect. This is because manufacturers of Desktop Publishing applications have their own, unique methods of text rendering and graphical representation.

Therefore, text flow and certain graphical elements will not be 100%. Depending on the use of custom kerning, tracking, leading, graphic formatting and effects, etc., more or less rework may be required, but some rework will always be required. It is suggested that all converted documents are proofed before output.
